In this module students investigated ‘Hans’ (caravanserais) in Eminönü and Karaköy which are structures with distinct architectural typology. The structure and human activities in these historic buildings are in transformation as the urban context. Students encoded main features of the Hans and create their own rule-based grammars to generate their designs. They looked at spatial parameters, architectural features, historical layers, material systems, program and how they are integrated in the urban network.
